Chandra Silva
Chandra Silva received a B.S in Social Science with a History emphasis from Boise State University (1997), her M.S. in Women’s Studies from Minnesota State University (1999), and Ph.D in American Studies from Washington State University where she wrote her dissertation titled Esto Perpetua: The Persistence and Transformation of Feminism in Idaho Through the Struggle to Ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, © Washington State University (2005).
Silva’s primary research areas are western women’s history, Idaho women’s history, and twentieth-century United States history with a particular emphasis on the faces and spaces in the history of social movements including feminism, labor unions, civil rights, peace, and issues of environmental justice.
In addition to a myriad of social, civic, and political affiliations, her most current research project features an ongoing biographical assembly of powerful and effective women activists in Idaho. This manuscript is titled “Women With Wings: Conversations with Idaho’s Artists, Shamans, Healers, and Teachers. Book Lore Press, Boise, Idaho, (exp. 2009).
Dr. Silva teaches courses on Western Civilization (I and II), United States History from pre-colonial times up through the twenty-first century, Idaho Women’s History, Women’s Activism, Myths and Images of Women in History, Feminist Theory, Gender Studies, Feminist Research Methods, and the widely acclaimed upper-division special topics course on the Intersections of Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality.
