
Sandra Schackel
Sandra Schackel, Ph.D., University of New Mexico, 1988, came to Boise State University in 1989. An American social historian, her special interests are the history of women in America and the history of the American West, including Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. Her publications include the award-winning Social Housekeepers: Women Shaping Public Policy in New Mexico, 1920-1940, several articles, two entries in the Encyclopedia of the American West and numerous book reviews. Currently she is researching the changing roles of ranch and farm women in the post-WWII American West. A chapter on this topic appeared in The Rural West in the Twentieth Century, edited by R. Douglas Hurt and published by the University Press of Kansas in 1998. She serves as Graduate Coordinator and on the board of the university's new program in Women's Studies. She is active in the annual Women's History Month Celebration and regularly offers summer workshops in the Continuing Education program. She is also a member of the Speaker's Bureau for the Idaho Humanities Council.
