Sandra Schackel, Ph.D., University of New Mexico, 1988, came to Boise State University in 1989. An American social historian, her special interests are the history of women in America and the history of the American West, including Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. Her publications include Western Women’s Lives: Continuity and Change in the Twentieth Century, published by the University of New Mexico Press in 2004 and the award-winning Social Housekeepers: Women Shaping Public Policy in New Mexico, 1920-1940 also published by New Mexico Press, in 1992. She teaches United States history including an Honors section, Women in America from the Early Contact Period to the Present, the American West including regional courses on the Pacific Northwest and the American Southwest. She also teaches regularly in the Gender Studies Program.
