Shelton Woods received his MA in Chinese History from California State University, Northridge. In 1994 he received his Ph.D. from UCLA in Southeast Asian History. It was also during 1994 that Dr. Woods joined the History Department at Boise State University.

Dr. Woods' academic interests include both East and Southeast Asia. He teaches courses on Twentieth Century China, Modern Southeast Asia and Eastern Civilization.
Dr. Woods has had several recent books released, including A Broken Mirror: Protestant Fundamentalism in the Philippines (New Day Publishers, 2002). His other works include Valley County, Idaho: Prehistory to 1920 (Editor); Vietnam: An Illustrated History (Hippocrene Press, 2002); and Vietnam: A Global Studies Handbook (ABC-CLIO, 2002).

Dr. Woods' articles appear in various journals including Philippine Studies, Discipliana, Contemporary Southeast Asia, and Business Horizons. His contributions include the chapters "Expatriate Global Investment and Squatter Displacement in Manila" in Hemalata Dandekar, ed., City Space, and Globalization (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 1998) and "the Myth of Cambodia's Recovery" in Sorpong Peou, ed. Cambodia: Change and Continuity in Contemporary Politics (Japan: Sophia University, 2000). In the forthcoming six volume Encyclopedia of Asia (Scribners), Woods contributed three substantial articles including: "China's Influence in East Asia."

Dr. Woods is currently working on the biography of John Early, former governor of Mountain Province, Philippines. He recently completed a manuscript on a history of Japan for Hippocrene Press.
