Greece
- Plutarch's biographical sketches are excellent and quite readable.
- Aristophanes was a comic playwright who lived during the Peloponnesian War. Lysistrata is an anti-war work; in The Birds he makes fun of Socrates and his crowd. Aeschylus and Euripedes both wrote some of the greatest tragedies in Western literature.
