Wars of the Roses
This civil war in England formed the main text for Shakespeare's "Henry" plays. It was for Shakespeare about as far back in his past as the American Civil War is in our past.
Lots of players here. This one's Richard III, around whom swirls a great deal of historical controversy. You can read all about it because there's an extensive site on the Internet about him.
This is Richard's adversary, Henry Tudor, who became Henry VII. The two men fought at a place called Bosworth Field--a very dramatic confrontation.
This is one of the sadder figures in the story, Henry VI. The big battles
of the Wars were fought while he was king.
