The Law: Summary

Looking at society from the legal point of view, we can see that by and large the law reinforced and supported the position of the elites: clergy, nobility, and citizens. While it gave some protections to others, it rarely gave them privileges. The law also served to help define who was outside society. Societies always find ways to say not only who's in but also who's out.
