The Bayeux Tapestry
Bayeux is a town in Normandy, so it's no surprise to find the conquest of England commemorated there. The tapestry itself is over two hundred and thirty feet long. It is divided into panels depicted various events in the history.
The picture below is from the tapestry. It shows Harold Godwinson on the throne
as King of England. To the left can be seen a piece of the previous panel in which
Harold is receiving the crown.

The Bayeux Tapestry is an invaluable source. It helps confirm the sequence of events. More importantly, it provides images of knights and ships at a time when we have very little visual evidence.
